By now, you are likely aware that the Department of Labor’s Final Rule revising the requirements for classifying “white collar” employees as exempt from the overtime requirements under the Fair Labor Standards Act went into effect January 1, 2020.

Also taking effect on January 1 is California’s Assembly Bill 5 (AB 5), which codifies the “ABC Test” for determining whether a worker is an employee or an independent contractor. While these changes are sure to affect many employers, they are just two of many legal and regulatory changes — an ongoing compliance challenge for employers.
